Another U.S. firm joins wood boycott
Article Abstract:
84 Lumber Co. (Pennsylvania) has joined the growing list of US companies to boycott wood from endangered forests. These companies have issued restrictive lumber-buying policies in wake of an aggressive campaign by environmentalists to cut off key US markets for Canadian old-growth Lumber. But B.C. forestry companies point that no one has yet adequately defined what constitutes an endangered forest. 84 Lumber has pledged to give preference to lumber certified by independent agencies like Forest Stewardship Council, the Canadian Standards Association and International Standards Organization. The Canadian industry is battling a move to make Forest Stewardship Council favored by the environmentalists.
