Are parent-school partnerships the key to improving schools?
Article Abstract:
Increasing parental involvement has been cited as one way to speed up school reform by making people aware of the things that need to be changed. The Clinton administration has stressed parental involvement in an effort to reestablish a spirit of connectedness between parents, children and their education system. Opponents of parental involvement beleive the actual plan is to take away local control of education and eventually turn schools and communities into Big Brother-like communes in which the cultural and social beliefs of the educational elites can be imposed without opposition.
