Assante dealers putting more clients into in-house funds

Assante Corp's preliminary prospectus shows that the company's mutual fund dealers in Canada, including Equion Group Ltd, have been placing more of their customers into in-house funds. The move is attributed by the company to its ability to provide investors with more sophisticated services and products. At present, Assante's in-house products account for 15.8% of the company's total assets of C$21.5 bil under administration.

Small furniture firm pegged for success

At a time when the domestic industry is being hurt by competition from low-cost Chinese imports and the high Canadian dollar, Durham Furniture Inc. is expanding with a third, highly computerized $38 million plant in June 2004. John Scarsella, president and chief executive officer of Durham Furniture Inc. states that it is technology that makes the difference and helps against low wage guys.
