East Timor has been terrorized by paramilitary groups that support integration with Indonesia. The government claims the fighting is between East Timorese political factions, but observers say the fighting is one sided. The terrorist groups are armed and fed by the Indonesian army. One group bombarded the house of a former East Timorean parliamentarian with gunfire, killing his son.

Black magic music
Article Abstract:
Young people in many communities in the northern Australia are listening to a kind of music that is reflective of their culture and life style. The music is influenced by rock, reggae, gospel, and country. Tony Collins of ABC radio came up with the idea of producing a CD that would highlight the musical diversity of this region. More than 40 musicians turned out for the recordings.

The Javanese cultural capital of Yogyakarta is hosting an exhibition of Australian painter Geoff Todd's impressions of the life of Diponegoro, 19th-century Javanese freedom fighter and Indonesia's most revered national hero. The brother of Java's spiritual leader opened the exhibition and likened Todd's work to Raden Saleh and Affandi, the masters of Indonesian art.
