Aye Karumba, it's a battle for cattle
Article Abstract:
Queensland hopes to build Karumba as a center for trade with Asia by moving its cattle shipping from Darwin to Karumba. Karumba has benefitted from the $885 million Pasminco Century zinc mine and now has deep water. Darwin officials point out that they are closer to Asian ports and that they have the necessary infrastructure for cattle transport. Karumba biggest handicap is good roads. But with adequate federal funding Karumba's development will lead to increased jobs and visitors.
