Seventeen-year-old Belinda Stuart is determined to continue her education despite being eight months pregnant, but Nancy Doherty, 18, dropped out of high school. Although Nancy had wanted to continue her education, she found it too difficult to both attend school and care for her newborn.

Teenagers in Ottawa, Ontario, are beginning to routinely use weapons to settle disputes. Teenage crime had previously consisted of shoplifting and similar acts. Teenage gangs have proliferated the area since late 1990.
