Structural changes
Article Abstract:
Public television had been receiving continuous financial support in the 1980s. By 1988, major structural changes were made typified mainly by the establishment of the Independent Television Service. The new entity was an answer to public clamor for more innovative programming. In the 1990s, an important post was created: a program czar. The creation of the new post aroused controversy because of the potential monopoly that could be establishedand the political influence that could be exerted on public broadcasting.

The future of libraries: is the rush to high technology misguided?
Article Abstract:
America's libraries are embracing the future by adopting high technology, but some critics see this path as misguided. Around half of the nation's public libraries now use the Internet, and other resource sharing has also been facilitated by computer and telecommunications links among libraries. For example, cataloging can be easily shared, but some patrons prefer card catalogs. While rare books and documents can be preserved digitally, critics also find problems with this use of technology.

Outlook
Article Abstract:
There is a growing acceptance of alternative medicine by advocates of conventional medicine. Legitimate medical institutions and practitioners are now offering alternative medical treatments to their patients. Unproven methods have opened up novel approaches to health and disease that mainstream science may explore, and if found effective, apply alongside conventional medical techniques.
