Article Abstract:
Acceptability of food irradiation is debated just as much outside the US despite endorsements by the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization, International Atomic Energy Agency and World Health Organization. South Africa and Thailand encouraged acceptance of food irradiation while Japan imposed stringent measures against it. Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Poland accepted food irradiation on a selective basis while Australia, Denmark, Germany, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Sweden completely banned the technology.
