The regular and far-reaching grassfires of Western Australia produce pollutants in certain regions which rival some of the global pollution hotspots. Fires may travel up to 100km in this remote area, and plumes of smoke have even been detected by NASA satellites.

The world's tallest hardwood tree, a mountain ash named Icarus Dream, was found in the Styx valley of Tasmania. The 97-meter eucalypt now holds multiple records, as the world's tallest flowering plant and the tallest tree in the Southern Hemisphere.
