Two CHUM executives gross $1.5-million apiece for 1998

CHUM Ltd., a firm in the broadcasting business, enjoyed during the fiscal year that ended on Aug. 31, 1998, a 40% increase in earnings to close to C$23 million. CHUM's excellent financial performance during the fiscal year 1998 also benefitted its vice-president for corporate development and CITY-TV president, Moses Znaimer, and its chief operating officer and executive vice-president, Fred Sherratt. The two executives of CHUM each secured from the company C$1.5 million worth of gross compensation for the fiscal year 1998.

Irish dividend boosts can west

CanWest Global Communications Corp has announced a profit of C$39.3 million, or 26 cents a share on revenue of C$189.2 million in the 2nd qtr ended Feb 28, 1999, up by 27% and 8%, respectively. The boost in earnings has been attributed to the special dividend paid by Ulster Television in North Ireland in which CanWest acquired a 30% stake in 1998. The company also reported that revenue was up 2% in both Canada and Australia, but down by 32% in New Zealand.
