Kim Beazley's popularity does not compare with that of Tony Blair, Labour's prime minister in Britain, whose resolution of conflict with the union movement has propelled his public approval rating to a record 72% after one year in office. The waterfront dispute has affected Australia's perception of Beazley and other Labor colleagues who are viewed as captive to trade unions' bosses.
