Judge says he will aprove Coke settlement

US District Judge Richard Story annonced on May 29, 2001 that he will approve the $192.5 million settlement of a racial-discrimination lawsuit against Coca-Cola Co. He called the settlement ' a historic agreement' that will improve the soft drinks company for future generations of black workers. The settlement als commits Coca-Cola to broad outside monitoring of its personnel polices and forces it to create a panel to serve as a diversity watchdog.

Judge in Florida upholds $145 billion tobacco verdict
Article Abstract:
Judge Robert Kaye has upheld the $145-billion verdict won by Florida smokers against the tobacco industry. The Florida judge also widened he scpe of the anti-tobacco lawsuit to cover more Floridians with health problems linked to smoking. The ruling has opened he door to a prolonged appeals process in state courts. To launch an appeal, the industry is required to post a $100 million bond.
