Bittersweet victory: the Nisga'a land claim deal faces stiff opposition

The Nisga'a reached a tentative settlement with the British Columbian government in Feb 1996, that would allot the native tribe 772 square miles of the Nass Valley, $190 million and fishing rights. The agreement is controversial, and many groups oppose the deal such as non-native fishermen.

A festival with an Asian flavor

The Vancouver International Film Festival has distinguished itself by promoting a large number of Asian films and international documentaries. The 1995 festival will be held Sep 29 through Oct 15, 1995, and will feature 49 films from East Asia and 25 documentaries.
