Bre-X affiliate seeks to get back in business

Article Abstract:

Bro-X Minerals Ltd, a Calgary, Alberta-based affiliate of Bre-X Minerals Ltd, is asking its shareholders to put up C$2.2 million to allow the company to get back in business. The funding request is one of several moves the company has made in the hope of emerging from bankruptcy protection following the spectacular collapse of Bre-X. The company is considering changing its name to Valient Ventures Ltd to further disassociate itself from Bre-X, which went under after it was alleged that its supposedly rich Busang gold deposit in Indonesia was not.

CN creates five regional divisions

Article Abstract:

Canadian National Railway Co (CN) is creating five regional divisions and removing around 50 management jobs to facilitate its integration with Illinois Central Corp. CN acquired Illinois Central in 1997 in a $2.4-bil deal that has already won preliminary approval from US regulators. CN said three of its new divisions will be based in Canada while two will be located in the US. No unionized are expected to be affected by the job eliminations.
