Brereton fails to focus on the big picture

Article Abstract:

Australia's shadow foreign minister Laurie Brereton is not acting in Australia's best interest by his aggressiveness in East Timor politics. Brereton scored points for Labor's New South Wales right when he exploited a leaked intelligence document linking the Indonesian military with pro-Indonesian militias in East Timor and predicting correctly that an escalation of violence in Dili would occur. However, Brereton should put his party second to Australia and consider how his actions put Australia at a diplomatic disadvantage.

Deceit of Ryan

Issues relating to the fall-out of the Ryan poll are discussed, specifically the tendency of political leaders to use spin when speaking to the public, avoiding the truth expressed in real language and real terms. The public are increasingly able to detect this, and it is foolish for the political parties to handicap themselves in this way.
