CDIC, CompCorp merger recommended
Article Abstract:
A federal task force has recommended that the Canada Deposit Insurance Corp. (CIDC), a Crown corporation insuring bank and trust customers, be merged with life insurance insurer Canadian Life and Health Insurance Compensation Corp. (CompCorp). The task force said that two insurance systems are inefficient and that it is unfair that bank and trust customers are insured by a Crown corporation. The task force has proposed two ways to combine the two insurers. One way is for CompCorp to be part of CDIC, which would remain a Crown corporation with access to government borrowings. Another way is the merger of the two in a new organization that would not be a Crown corporation but would have access to government borrowings.

Eaton's sale seen going piecemeal
Article Abstract:
The sale of department store chain T Eaton Company Ltd is expected to attract US and Canadian retailers. However, analysts believe that prospective buyers will not be interested in acquiring all the troubled chain's 64 stores. T Eaton may end up selling itself in pieces to different buyers or seek a buyer that would take control and sell the unwanted assets. Among the potential buyers are Hudson's Bay Co, Sears Canada Inc and Federated Department Stores Inc.
