CHINA: TRANSPARENCY IN CADRES INCOMES

On 25 December 2000, Wei Jiqanxing, major heavy-weight in graft busting in China announced that provincial officials at the senior level must declare their family's wealth aside from their own incomes. There have been more than 130,000 graft cases investigated in the year 2000 and will continue to be investigated said Mr Wei. The senior provincial officials are also banned from accepting sponsorships and gifts. Officials that vacate their offices will also have their jobs and overseas visits checked to help curb graft and to punish those on the take previously.

HONG KONG: CATHAY RENTS APARTMENT FOR CREW
Article Abstract:
Hong Kong-based flyer Cathay Pacific has recently agreed to lease apartments from Sino Group to accommodate its overseas cabin crew. The 130 apartments, with floor area of 725 square feet, are located in Hong Kong Gold Coast (Tuen Mun). Price of the 3-year leasing deal is not revealed.
