Gentra chief unveils $175-million Toronto complex

Gentra Inc., a Toronto, Canada-based company, plans to set up a C$175-million complex in downtown Toronto, Canada, that will house retail stores, movie theaters and condominiums. The 575,000-sq-ft complex will be built at the back of the facade of what used to be the University Theatre. The development will feature a nine-screen movie theater to be operated by Famous Players Inc., 70,000 sq ft of high-end retail space, and a 26-floor upscale condominium tower. Gentra will shoulder 60% of the C$175-million cost of the project. It will construct the parking garage, retail shops and cinema complex.

Livent abandons theatre project
Article Abstract:
Livent Inc. has abandoned its theatre project in downtown Toronto, Ontario, and has reached an agreement to divest the land for the project as well as its 18% equity interest in the developer of the hotel and condominium portion of the project. The project involved the construction of the Pantages Place in a complex, which will have a four-star hotel and 198 luxury condominium units. According to real estate sources, all the units in the condominium were sold out as buyers were lured by the complimentary memberships in the Pantages Tower Theatre Club.
