CalEnergy's power player
Article Abstract:
CalEnergy CEO David Sokol is the power player behind the utility's push to change the stodgy power industry. Sokol is cashing in on the inefficiency of utility monopolies and the imminent deregulation to become a major player in the electricity industry. Using hostile takeovers and ambitious global projects, Omaha, NE-based CalEnergy now owns operations stretching from the jungles of Indonesia to the mountains of upstate New York. The utility has expanded from one power facility and revenue of less than $100 million in 1991 to 28 power plants and over $5 billion in revenue at present.
