Can Cuba change?

Article Abstract:

Cuba is attempting to reform its economy by incorporating the best of both capitalism and socialism. Reforms that allow foreign investment and currency and encourage tourism boosted economic growth to 2.5% in 1995, despite the US embargo. Canada is one of Cuba's main sources of investment and tourism.

'The joint is jumping;' despite hard times, Cuba's spirited arts scene is thriving

Article Abstract:

The arts are thriving in Cuba despite economic problems. Filmmaking, especially documentaries, have always been well-funded in Cuba. The annual Latin American film festival draws a large international crowd. However, some art forms such as fiction are still affected by censorship.

A Latin love-in

Article Abstract:

A 56-member trade delegation from Quebec visited Havana, Cuba, during Dec 1995. The trade mission coincided with a film festival in Havana that featured Quebec films. Quebec has a long association with Cuba due to their common Latin heritage and leftist economic policies.
