Canadian Airlines expects U.S. lifeline

Canadian Airlines International Ltd expects to forge a deal with an unnamed equity investor in the US as part of the financially troubled firm's bailout plan. The plan, which can result in the foreign ownership of the airline, is expected to include the participation of the company's parent, Fort Worth, TX-based AMR Corp. AMR, the holder of a 25%-stake in Canadian, is expected to petition the Canadian federal government for a loosening of the government's policy on foreign ownership.

Swissair seeks protection, to regroup on smaller scale

Swissair is hoping to receive protection from its creditors as the carrier has been hurt by its high debt. Swissair will regroup its operations into a smaller scope by way of its Crossair regional unit.
