Experts: runway disaster was expectable
Article Abstract:
Aviation experts attribute the crash of Singapore Airlines Flight SQ006 to runway incursions, wherein a plane enters a runway blocked by another plane or a piece of equipment. They say that runway incursions are one of the biggest threats to airline safety. The pilot of the Singapore Airlines B747-400 jet taxied onto a runway closed for construction, believing it was a nearby parallel runway. The jet hit a concrete barrier and construction equipment before breaking up into pieces and bursting into flames.

Jet apparently was on wrong runway
Article Abstract:
Aviation experts investigating the crash of a Singapore Airlines B747-400 jet in Taiwan's Chiang Kai-shek International Airport believed the plane used the wrong runway and slammed into construction equipment during take- off. At least 81 of the 179 people aboard Flight SQ006 from Taipei to Los Angeles died after the jumbo jet broke into pieces and caught fire. Investigators said they found no wreckage or skid marks from the jet on the runway where the jet was supposed to take off.
