Airlines delay launching Orbitz web site
Article Abstract:
The fall 2000 launching of Orbitz, the website designed by major US airlines to draw passengers with special Internet-only fares, was postponed to June 2001 amid federal investigations into its impact on competition. The Justice Dept has began a probe after the American Society of Travel Agents expressed concerns that the website is an effort of the airlines to drive travel agents out of business. On the other end, airline developers reason that the delay is necesary to ensure better customer service and a stronger launch for Orbitz.

Airlines may have to pay more for lost bags
Article Abstract:
The Supreme Court has refused to reverse a ruling that would compel airlines to pay higher amounts for luggage lost or damaged in international flights. American Airlines had filed an appeal that sought to limit the amount it would to pay for five luggages which disappeared or arrived empty during a flight from Washington, DC to the Dominican Republic. A lawyer representing passengers said the ruling would greatly benefit international fliers.
