Funds return to battered Microsoft

Microsoft Corp has managed to retain its status as a core mutual fund holding despite the Jun 7, 2000, US District Court ruling that would divide the company. The software maker, whose shares closed at $72.56 apiece on Jun 16, 2000, is considered good value by mutual fund managers despite being down 38% from its prices at the start of 2000. Microsoft shares has been placed in buy orders by such funds as Strong Dow 30 Value, Transamerica and Eaton Vance Tax-Managed Growth.

Microsoft pulls off a profit surprise

Microsoft Crp pulled off the unexpected on Apr 19, 2001, reporting strong profit in its fiscal third quarter, but it also warned that PC sales growth could be more anemic in 2001, than anticipated. The company announced earlier that it expected PC sales to grow 10% worldwide in 2001. That estimate has been reduced to 7% to 8%. Microsoft reported net income of $2.45 billion, or 44 cetns per share, for the quarter that ended Mar 31.
