Europeans issue wake-up call to U.S. dominance of Internet
Article Abstract:
European leaders, expressing concern over US dominance of the Internet, have vowed to jump-start their own high-technology industries in an effort to narrow the existing gap. Europe, which is yet to produce an Internet firm that covers the entire continent, is believed to be hampered by existing regulations that discourage entrepreneurship. At a meeting of the European Union in Madrid, Spain, on Jan 11, 2000, European leaders vowed to create the necessary conditions that will encourage the growth of Internet-based businesses.
