Cards offer health care savings

Companies offering medical discount cards as alternatives to health insurance are promising their clients more than they can possibly deliver. These firms, which promise as much as 80% savings on medical bills in exchange for monthly fixed fees ranging from $6.50 to about $40, sell the cards over the Internet and are targeting the elderly and the uninsured. Despite claims to the contrarym, critics of the medical discount cards are advising consumers to proceed with due caution.

Cost-cutting changes how nurses operate
Article Abstract:
The number of registered nurses in hospitals are declining due mainly to the cost-cutting measures that have been prevalent in the health care industry. In addition, registered nurses are assigned with more tasks such that the quality of service and the time they spend with a patient diminish. The hospitals' tendency to cut costs resulted from pressure as they register lower revenues from insurers and the government.

Domain name puts huge HMO vs. little non-profit
Article Abstract:
HealthNet, an HMO giant based in California, has sued a little non-profit organization for trademark infringement. The suit wants SatelLife of Watertown, MA, to stop from using the Web site address healthnet.org. SatelLife claims that it has been using the domain name since 1993 and that forcing it to change its address could derail its mission of aiding doctors in remote areas of Asia and Africa.
