With flight delays soaring, FAA is stepping in
Article Abstract:
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said it will introduce measures to boost the efficiency of the nation's air traffic control system following an unprecedented 35% increase in flight delays in May, June and July 1999 from the same period a year ago. For the three-month period, there were a total of 125,000 flight delays, the highest recorded over the last five years. The new measures include giving the FAA's air traffic command center in Herndon, VA, greater power over rerouting aircraft.

FAA: fliers should not worry about plane wiring
Article Abstract:
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) director of aircraft certification Beth Erickson said on Oct 11, 2000 that travelers should not be worried about electrical wire on old aircraft. Erickson explained that cracks found in the wiring of six aging jets by an FAA task force 'don't mean fleetwide safety problems.' On the same day, the task force presented its final report to a joint FAA-airline industry committee, which will provide recommendations to the agency.
