An exhibition of a century of Australian art, entitled Federation, Art and Society, opens at the National Gallery of Australia (NGA) in Canberra, on December 8, 2000. The head of Australian art for the NGA, John McDonald, had just 18 months to put the exhibition together, and the works of artists such as Tom Roberts, Fiona Hall, and Sam Byrne.

An exhibition entitled "Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and Mexican Modernism" will take place at the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra, starting on 13 July, 2001. The term used to describe the genre of work produced recently by Latin American visual artists is "magic realism."
