Cleopatra's lost city
Article Abstract:
French marine archaeologist Franck Goddio began in the mid-1990s an expedition off the coast of modern Alexandria, Egypt, to discover underwater ruins of ancient Alexandria. He probed the underwater island Antirhodos, which was in the first century A.D. the site of Cleopatra's palace. Discoveries included statues, buildings, a shipwreck and remnants from the city, Racothis, that preceded ancient Alexandria. Goddio believes the site should become an underwater museum but it will take ten years into the 21st century to complete his exploration.
