Article Abstract:
Theatre director Roger Hodgman has great ability to relate to the much-admired, but rarely commercially successful, works of Stephen Sondheim. The IMG/Melbourne Theatre Company boxoffice hit directed by Hodgman, "A Little Night Music" is in Sydney. THe production is elegant, has a glittering cast and a polished ensemble, but Pamela Rabe as the Count's neglected with runs away with the show.

Rare gold in a brassy world
Article Abstract:
Director Richard Wherrett's next big project will be the Bell Shakespearean Company's 'The Merchant of Venice.' He's famous in Australia for setting 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' in a disco in the 1980s. He believes the main point of 'The Merchant of Venice' is the idea of contracts and promises. Later in 1999 he plans to direct Shakespeare's 'Henry V.'
