Coming to terms with the bomb
Article Abstract:
The argument over whether or not the use of nuclear weapons against Japan in Aug 1945 was justified continues to rage in the US and elsewhere. The passage of 50 years has done little to ease passions on either side of the question, as the furor over the Smithsonian's cancelled bomb exhibit shows.

The enduring legends of the Willard

The Willard Hotel, refurbished in 1980, is as grand as it was when Abraham Lincoln stayed there in 1961 to prepare for his inauguration. Pres Ulysses F. Grant coined the term 'lobbyist' in the Willard's lobby as he watched men give envelopes full of cash to politicians.
