Conseco share price could boost CEO's pay

Article Abstract:

Conseco could award a $50 million bonus to Gary Wendt in Jun 2002, according to the firm's annual statement filed Apr 27, 2001. Wendt's employment contract with Conseco entitles him to that much if the average closing price of Conseco shares for the 20 trading days before Jul 2002 is at least $20. Wendt will get $8 million if the stock is trading below $10, and $20 million if it trades at $15 to $20. Wendt receives no salary for 2001 or 2002. He will get $1 million a year beginning in 2003.

PBGC plays part in steel reform

Article Abstract:

The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. (PBGC) has taken over Bethlehem Steel's retirement plan and has proposed to cut monthly pension of $2,520 by about $1,100. PBGC's takeover has played a major role in restructuring the industry as unions have been able to negotiate more flexible contracts while protecting some older workers and steelworkers are at a greater benefit than employees at many other troubled firms.
