'Copenhagen' commits sin against history

Article Abstract:

Broadway, New York, NY-based Royale Theater's latest production, the Tony award-winning drama 'Copenhagen,' initially appears to be a brilliantly crafted stage play about the ultimate role that two elite physicists play in the development of the atomic bomb. Yet what makes it so compelling as art is precisely what has made it so repellant as history: the idea of moral equivalency between the Allies and the Axis powers in World War Two. It is argued that theater goers will remain so dazzled by the brilliant erudition and wordplay in 'Copenhagen' that they will ignore its disturbing, underlying premise.

New drugs, younger addicts fuel push to shift treatment from methadone clinics

Article Abstract:

Several new anti-addiction drugs that promise to be a better alternative to methadone, the most commonly used drug for blocking an addict's craving for heroin, are close to getting FDA approval. Unlike methadone, these new drugs are non-addictive. Thus, users do not experience a painful withdrawal when they stop the treatment. One anti-narcotic drug, which combines two drugs in a once-a-day pill, could recieve an FDA approval by Sep 2000, while a new injectable drug could be available by 2002.

The Postal Service is also hiking the price of postage for every additional ounce of first-class mail by 2 cents, to 23 cents. A half-pound Express Mail package would also go up by 20 cents to $12.45.
