Crunch time for league
Article Abstract:
Professional rugby football in Australia has reached a critical time because some analysts are questioning whether rugby will be able to survive as a professional sport. Professional athletes have given the sport a bad name with immature behavior and drug abuse. The administration of the sport has not gone smoothly since the 1998 creation of the National Rugby League. Fans have become disappointed with the game and its players. However, the 1999 season will open in Sydney with a sold-out crowd. The question is whether the initial enthusiasm will last.
