Deal helps Couche-Tard to 112% profit jump

Article Abstract:

Canadian convenience store firm Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc posted a profit of $6.7 million for the period ended July 18, 1999 from $3.1 million during the same period in 1998. The increase, which amounted to 112% was attributed to the firm's acquisition of Silcorp Ltd. Its sales also grew 146% from $149.1 million to $367.3 million. Couche-Tard manages 1,600 outlets throughout Canada of which 450 are gas bars.

Royal Bank makes Mississauga its hub

Article Abstract:

Royal Bank Financial Group will construct a C$200-mil, 820,000-sq-ft office complex in Mississauga, Ontario, citing ease of access as among the reasons of choosing the place out of 40 probable sites. The custom-built office complex, which will house 6,000 Royal Bank workers, will be constructed in the Meadowvale North Business Park, situated at the northeast corner of Highway 401 and Mississauga Road.

Labatt veteran heads Interbrew

Article Abstract:

Interbrew SA of Belgium has named Hugo Powell as its new chief executive officer. Powell, who was president of Labatt Breweries of Canada in 1992, will move from his position as CEO of Interbrew Americas. The company, which acquire John Labatt Ltd in 1996, has aslo promoted Don Kitchen from president of Labatt Breweries Canada to the newly created position of president Labatt Breweries North America.
