Death of a legend: Stanley Knowles spoke for the downtrodden
Article Abstract:
Knowles first won election to the Canadian Parliament in 1942, and served 13 more terms in office, until a stroke in 1981 partially disabled him. He was an expert at Parliamentary rules and procedures and often championed the rights of the poor. He died at the age of 88.

Sailing solo: a Nova Scotian's lonely odyssey
Article Abstract:
Joshua Slocum was born in Nova Scotia, Canada and epitomizes Canadian adventurers with his determination. Slocum is not known in Canada even though he wrote a book about his three-year voyage begun in 1895 that covered 46,000 miles around the world.
