The affluence that grew after the World War II prompted the housewives to go for cosmetic surgery such as face-lifts. Some of the cosmetic surgeries like face-lifts that became popular in the 1960s, along with silicon breast implants that was introduced in 1962, the 1980s introduced breast augmentation for the women for women recovering from breast cancer surgery and those who were not happy with their small breasts.

Different methods of ancient plastic surgeries are discussed. The practices done by different surgeon like Sushruta who reconstructed a nose from a patient's cheek, the Vigina surgeon John Peter Mettauer performed the first American cleft operation in 1827, Surgeon John Orlando Rose of Rochester, N.Y. performed the first intranasal rhinoplasty (nose job) with incisions made inside the nose.
