Israel tightly restricts Palestinians' freedom to travel in order to curb suicide bombers. Israel has stated that it would remove troops from the occupied territories when Palestinians can take responsibility for security, but the controls are likely to stay there for a while from a security perspective, as they are effective.

The 455-mile security barrier that is being built by Israel expresses the division and distrust between the Israelis and Palestinians.
