Australian Labor Party economic officials in 1999 are embracing market-oriented economic policies used during 1983-1996 even though such policies threatened the party's relationship with its core constituent of blue collar workers. The 1999 policy decisions will present political challenges to party leaders such as Kim Beazley and Treasury official Simon Crean.
