Falling oil prices good but also bad

Article Abstract:

Crude oil prices are continuously declining and might yet drop $10 per barrel or less in the next six months, according to Robert C Baird analyst George Gaspar. This is welcome news to the overall economy, as it will keep commodity prices at a low level and should benefit the shareholders of oil stocks because of resulting mergers. However, the decline of oil prices, already at its lowest in 8 1/2 years, is also bad news to employees in the energy industry as they face major layoffs resulting from consolidation.

Consumers have stopped buying based on brands alone and are shifting their purchases towards products that offer performance and skin treatment benefits. The trend has been attributed to the informed and high-expectation shopping by the aging baby boomers who have more disposable income, are more educated as consumers and are less attached to brand loyalty.
