CAW warns of Ford strike after 'terrible' first offer
Article Abstract:
The Canadian Auto Workers has warned of a possible strike after receiving an offer from the Ford Motor Co of Canada Ltd which it said was inadequate. The automaker has proposed a three-year labor contract with an annual wage increase of 1% and a C$500 signing bonus. Ford's offer also failed to address other non-economic issues such as the union's call to restore a second shift at the pickup plant in Oakville, Ontario, and guarantee to secure the operation of casting plant in Windsor, Ontario.

Ford sweetens offer to CAW
Article Abstract:
Ford Motor Company of Canada Inc has improved its offer to 13,000 Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) members, diminishing the chances of a possible strike on Sep 21, 1999. The union was disgruntled at the initial offer of the automaker to increase wages by 1% annually for three years and give a $500 signing bonus. CAW did not detail the revised proposal, except to say that the plan highlighted the union's major concerns.
