'Fast, Furious': from O to $41M in one weekend

The 'Fast and the Furious,' a film about illegal street racing among Los Angeles gangs, grossed $41.6 million during the third weekend of Jun 2001, based on box office estimates from ACNielsen EDI. The success of the movie, which stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and rapper Ja Rule, was fueled by an ethnically diverse audience, more than 75% are under 25 years old. Placing second was Dr Dolittle 2 with $26.7 million while Lara Croft: Tom Raider dropped to third with $20.2 million.
