Festival folly

Adelaide, Australia's festival of arts is criticized because of Liberal Minister of the Arts Diana Laidlaw's decision to appoint American Peter Sellars director. Sellars had a desire to change the festivals's model, but the result was poorly executed ideas and Sellars' absence at the festival's launch last week.

In March 2001, art patron Ann Lewis was awarded the first ever honorary doctorate in Fine Arts by the University of Sydney. Lewis, who is also a benefactor and collector of Australian art, started her involvement with the art world when she became director of Gallery A in Sydney in 1964.
