Naturalists working with Northern Habitat raised awareness of the increase in the number of cane toads in Western Australia at a cane toad forum held in Cairns in February 2004 as they were affecting the environment. As a result, the government announced a $600,000 initiative to tackle cane toads of which traps were purchased and being set at the Northern Territory border.
