The Emporer of Japan is not allowed to deal directly in political matters and is thought of as a symbol and religious leader. Problems regarding the management the role of monarch has been heightened over succession issues and the relevance of the royal families activities to day-today Japanese life.

The deepening dangers of Dagestan: guerilla war in the Caucasus and terrorism in Moscow could spiral into disaster, both for Russia and for the West

This article examines the possible fallout from the terrorist bombings in Russia and Russia's possible military response against Islamic separatists in Dagestan and Chechnya in the Caucasus region. Dangers include a Russian backlash against Caucasian people in general, another Russian military intervention in Chechnya, further erosion of Russian democracy, and the destruction of Dagestan's delicate ethnic balance.
