French said to spy on U.S. computer companies

Article Abstract:

W. Douglas Gow, representing the FBI, confirms reports that the French intelligence service have spied on American industrial targets. Gow adds that he knows of no French espionage that has occurred in the United States. According to Gow, French intelligence agents tried, between 1987 and 1989, to collect industrial secrets at foreign offices of two American computer companies. The companies are identified as IBM and Texas Instruments. The State Department has delivered a confidential protest to the French Government. Until now, neither government officially acknowledged the incident.

Zimbabwe's Woes Are Bringing Grief To Its Wildlife, Too

Article Abstract:

One of the major consequences of Zimbabwe's decaying economy is the destruction of game preserves and other wildlife management resources. These use to encourage tourism and big-game hunting that contributed to the nation's economy. Conservationists estimate that more than two-thirds of wildlife in these areas have been killed by hungry squatters and poachers who have no other means of survival. The country's policy of taking white-owned private scrubland, ideal for photographic safaris, and giving it to squatters has led to the desecration of wildlife species.
