Health services in the Ottawa region are declining in quality. Funding cuts have led to layoffs and the elimination of many hospital beds. Hospital patients are forced to return home before they feel ready, and bedside manner has suffered as nurses and doctors take on more responsibilities.

New Brunswick Court of Queen's Bench judge Thomas Riordan sentenced Steven and Lorelei Turner to 16 years in prison for the killing of their three-year-old son. The child, whose body was covered with abuse-related injuries, starved to death in the Turner's Miramichi, New Brunswick home.
