GM strike may idle 5 more plants
Article Abstract:
General Motors' Flint, MI, Metal Center is expected to close five more plants following a strike by 3,700 GM workers, in a move that would affect 14,000 workers. The latest closure of plants will include Pontiac, Oldsmobile and Buick cars making facilities in Fairfax, KS, and Lake Orion, MI, and another one in Moraine, OH, which makes Chevrolet, GMC and Olds sport-utility vehicles. The strike was spurred by the company's move of removing dies used for making truck parts, which contradicts worker demand for more investment in new machinery.
