Gap politics
Article Abstract:
The political gender gap became a factor in the midterm 1994 congressional elections when 57% of the GOP vote came from males and 54% of the Democratic vote came from women. The political issues dividing the sexes are not only women-related ones. Welfare and other social problems also divide the sexes.

Too representative government
Article Abstract:
Congress has become too responsive to public opinion and is addressing an increasing number of issues with bills that are too complex and detailed. TV news coverage adds to the problem by emphasizing conflict. Narrowing the agenda of Congress would be the most effective political reform.

Right-wing populist

Republican presidential candidate Pat Buchanan's chances of winning his party's nomination are not very strong, but his chances for changing the shape of the political landscape are good. Buchanan seeks to tap into the populist impulse and lure them to the Republican side of politics.
