Goodman brings experience to Zemex's bid for Inmet

Article Abstract:

Dundee Bancorp Inc. official Ned Goodman is playing a key role in the C$517-million takeover attempt by Zemex Corp. for Inmet Mining Corp. Dundee has a 34% stake in Zemex, hence the key part held by Goodman in the deal. Dundee's other investments include its ownership of the Dynamic mutual fund family and a minority interest in brokerage Marleau Lemire Inc., as well as shareholdings in Breakwater Resources Ltd. Goodman also co-founded the investment management firm Beutal Goodman and Company Ltd. in 1967. He left that company in 1984.

Onex's 'bold step': one big airline

Article Abstract:

Onex Corp of Toronto, Ontario, has launched an unsolicited bid to acquire Air Canada and merge it with its competitor Canadian Airlines International Ltd. The C$1.8-billion proposal has been approved by Canadian Airlines Corp but still needs the approval of Air Canada and the federal government. Onex Group has grown from a C$50-million company to a C$3-billion investment giant with holdings in dozen companies including computer goods, airline-catering services and auto parts with more than C$11 billion in sales.
